Support for Looked After Children
We maintain and develop support for Looked after Children through our Local Authority/College Network. This network has been built up over a 5 year period. The network addresses the problem of small numbers of Looked after Children in individual schools and colleges by linking LAs, Colleges and schools to work together to identify potential learners and support their progression onto HE.
We facilitate and provide activities in conjunction with HEIs, LAs, Schools and Colleges that enhance the chances of progression for this group of learners. We will inform our partners through our web site and e-mail of the range of activities to ensure school and college support in these activities.
The network is brought together to provide an annual Support into HE/FE Conference for learners and teaching staff of HE/LA/Schools and Colleges.
We provide:
- Taster days for an identified cohort
- HEI Ambassadors to work with cohorts at the beginning of the year in preparation for the start of the programme
- CPD opportunities for designated Teachers
- Students access to a Programme of termly visits to 3 (Buttle Trust quality awarded) HEIs
- Staff planning and review meeting for Local Authorities to identify the ongoing needs of their LAC cohort(s).
- As part of the programme, CPD admissions workshops for LA staff (Education Advisers; non-traditional qualifications)
- An end of year HEI conference for Students and their foster carers, Education advisers and Social Workers
